Terracotta / Fired EarthThe word ‘terracotta' derives from Italian and simply means ‘fired earth', though the word is often used to describe the orange-brown colour of this red-burning clay. Usually brown or buff in colour in its raw state, this EARTHENWARE clay turns to its distinctive orange colour in the kiln, when fired to its maturing temperature. Traditionally used in building & architectural work from basic bricks & tiles to ornate embellishments, terracotta is all around us; it is decorative, practical and brings a natural warmth and beauty to our homes and gardens. |
